Electrostatic separation of binary mixtures of some biodegradable polymers and poly(vinyl chloride) or poly(ethylene terephthalate)

Abstract: There are presented results of investigation of electrostatic separation of binary mixtures containing a biodegradable polymer {polylactide (PLA), polycaprolactone (PCL), or poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-4-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3,4HB)]} and a commonly used polymer [poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) or poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)]. It was found that the binary mixtures of these polymers could be efficiently separated. The electrostatic separation process of the P(3,4HB)/PET mixture appeared to be most successful. It … Show more

“…In case of detecting at the client non-compliant parts the supplier is obliged to immediately implement the Controlled Shipping procedure (sometimes also called Restricted Shipping).Controlled Shipping process assumes the introduction of an additional 100% inspection of section at the end of the production process or outside the production line, in order to search for parts of nOK, according to the accepted instruction. Controlled Shipping provides an immediate opportunity to protect the customer from receiving further non-compliant parts, and to the supplier gives time to find the root cause and to implement corrective actions [23][24][25][26]. Control in the process of Controlled Shipping can be visual or using specific control and measurement tools or gauges.…”

“…The resultant eco-polyol was characterized by a hydroxyl number of 326 mg KOH/g, an acid number of 18.12 mg KOH/g, and a water content of 0.331. The chemical structure of the eco-polyol was confirmed by 1 HNMR, 13 CNMR, and FTIR. The recyclate was used in a synthesis of rigid polyurethane-polyisocyanurate foams.…”

“…Żenkiewicz and Żuk [11,12] comprehensively reviewed the possibility of applying of tribocharging and electrostatic for the separation of polymers. Moreover, the authors studies highlighted important problems in separating biodegradable polymers from non-biodegradable materials [13,14], which should increase in the near future.…”

“…Fig. 2 presents the Ishikawa diagram [9][10][11][12] for the problem of cracks, inaccurate casting of the shell. This diagram was implemented on the basis of brainstorming carried out among the employees of the analyzed plant, which take an active part in the preparation and implementation of the helmet's production.…”
