Electroweak radiative corrections to weak boson production at hadron colliders

Abstract: We summarize the status of calculations of the electroweak radiative corrections to W and Z boson production via the Drell-Yan mechanism at hadron colliders. To fully exploit the precision physics potential of the highluminosity environment of the Fermilab Tevatron pp (Run II) and the CERN LHC pp colliders, it is crucial that the theoretical predictions are well under control. The envisioned precision physics program includes a precise measurement of the W boson mass and width, and the (leptonic) weak mixing a… Show more

“…From Table 15.4 our estimate of the PDF uncertainty on the cross section ratio is +5.2 −4.8 % above 1 TeV or +10.7 −7.8 % above 2 TeV. The genuine electro-weak radiative corrections change by ∼10% in the relevant mass range [158,350]. The K-function changes faster below 250-300 GeV.…”

“…A complete one-loop parton cross section calculation has been included in [158] and confirmed in [350]. The EW corrections change the cross section by 10-20%.…”

“…We note that δ I is an arbitrary quantity and even though dσ (fin, 8) , dσ (fin,7) and dσ (fin,6) depend on it, this dependence cancels exactly in dσ (2) gg . Hence, making sure that the numerical results are independent of δ I is a useful check for our Monte Carlo program.…”

“…Trilinear gauge-boson couplings have been studied at LEP2 [1] and the Tevatron [2]. It should be emphasized that the studies at hadron colliders are complementary to studies at electron-positron colliders.…”

“…Higher-order QCD and electro-weak corrections to the value of cross-section are expected to be important for dilepton mass range beyond the Z -resonance (refs [3][4][5]). However, for low integrated luminosity, the event statistics fall rapidly beyond the Z -region, and hence, only the leading order estimate of the theoretical cross-section is considered for the present study.…”
