“…Furthermore, we provide 180 W measurements of a bulk CI chondrite Ivuna and a CAI from CV3 chondrite NWA 8722. Sample preparation methods were modified from previously established procedures (Kraus et al 1955;Faix et al 1981;Salters and Hart 1991;Horan et al 1998;M€ unker et al 2001;Kleine et al 2004Kleine et al , 2008.…”

“…Schindewolf and Irvine [27] absorbed Ge and Ga from diluted HF solutions on anion exchange resin AG1X8 while As(III) was not absorbed. Some more data about the behaviour of As(V) in HF media [28] and mixtures of HF/HNO 3 media [29] on AG1X8 are available although data for Ga differ in [27] and [28]. The behaviour of Ge, As(III) and As(V) in HCl media on AG1X8 is very well known from literature [30][31][32] and some data about the absorption in HCl/acetone media are available [33].…”

“…In order to obtain a large total efficiency for an experiment the separation factor between Group IV and V elements must be as high as possible while minimizing the volume of each fraction in order to facilitate the fast preparation of a counting sample. Based on reported data of distribution coefficients (K d ) [18,22] for the elements mentioned above in HF/HNO 3 media, the 11 M HF/7.7 M HNO 3 matrix was chosen to achieve the goal of separating the Group IV elements from a combined Nb and Ta fraction. Under these conditions the K d values of Nb and Ta are relatively small and close to each other, which allows them to be eluted together in a small fractional volume.…”
