“…Hematological and biochemical test results were generally normal but elevated levels of alkaline phosphatase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, and bilirubin were found in the cases in which intrahepatic or extrahepatic biliary duct compression was present (three of seven patients). The CEA and CA 19-9 levels in the serum are usually within normal ranges and cannot be considered as significant parameters to discriminate between malignant and benign hepatic tumors [9,10]. However, an elevated serum CA 19-9 level was found in our patient with BCAC, an observation previously reported in few cases of BCA and BCAC [2,9,10].…”

However, an elevated serum CA 19-9 level was found in our patient with BCAC, an observation previously reported in few cases of BCA and BCAC [2,9,10]. On the other hand, consistent with sporadic reports, an elevated CEA levels in tumor fluid, suggesting a biliary origin of the lesion, was found in one patient with BCA [7,10].…”

“…The role of MRCP for preoperative imaging still needs to be defined [81] . It is challenging to distinguish the lesions from hepatic cystadenocarcinomas based on current diagnostic studies [82] . Irregular wall enhancement and the presence of papillary projections should increase suspicion for biliary cystadenocarcinoma [83] .…”

“…Few cases of pancreatic cystadenomas with hypercellular, mesenchymal underlying stroma have been reported in the literature [3,7,12,[16][17][18][19], and they are more commonly encountered in the liver and the bile ducts [20]. These lesions occur almost exclusively in women [1,5,11,12,15,17]. Oestrogen receptor expression has been found in some cases [11,13,17,19].…”
