Elevated serum IgG titer and avidity to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans serotype c in Japanese periodontitis patients

Abstract: A. actinomycetemcomitans serotype c may play a significant role in chronic and generalized aggressive periodontitis, while A. actinomycetemcomitans serotype b may be associated with localized aggressive periodontitis in a Japanese population.

“…Interestingly, both A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis are capable of inducing strong antibody responses exceeding those found in many other bacterial infections [11]. Elevated levels of circulating antibodies against A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis in patients with periodontitis have often been reported [1216]; and in a large population of adults, who participated in the third US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, high titers of antibodies against P. gingivalis were consistently associated with periodontitis [17]. …”

“…Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans ATCC 43718 and Porphyromonas gingivalis 381 were cultured, and sonicated extracts were prepared as described previously [41]. Live P. gingivalis 381 (kindly gifted from Dr. Takeuchi), P. gingivalis LPS (InvivoGen, San Diego, CA), E. coli 055:B5 LPS (Sigma, Taufkirchen, Germany), IL-6, IFN-β, and IFN-γ (R&D systems, Minneapolis, MN) were purchased from the respective companies.…”
