Students entering school with underdeveloped writing skills often face academic challenges. Addressing and improving these skills at the preschool level is a critical instructional goal. Early engagement in writing activities with parents and adults at home, beginning at a young age, is crucial in shaping children's writing identities and methods. While student motivation is vital in developing writing abilities, the role of parents in encouraging and nurturing these skills is equally important. This study aims to explore how parental involvement aids in developing early children's writing skills. Data were collected through surveys conducted with parents of 3-6-year-old preschoolers, focusing on their writing support and parenting practices. This research seeks to understand the role of parents in facilitating early writing activities at home. The study's primary objective is to examine parents' perspectives on enhancing their children's early writing skills within a home environment. Active participation by parents in their children's writing activities, including practices like reading together, encouraging daily writing, and providing constructive feedback, has shown positive outcomes. However, some parents reported challenges such as limited time or resources, affecting their ability to support their child's writing development effectively.

This study investigated the Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use (PEoU), and availability of environmental print on teachers' Behavioural Intention (BI) to enhance emergent literacy skills in pre-primary schools in Tanzania. The study involved 103 pre-primary teachers in Shinyanga District Council. The study used the Technological Acceptance Model (TAM) to assess the influence of environmental print on teachers' behavioural Intention to enhance emergent literacy skills for pre-primary classes. The quantitative study involved a closed-ended questionnaire to gather information from pre-primary teachers regarding the influence of environmental print on pre-primary teachers' BI in enhancing emergent literacy skills.SPSS version 23 was used for data analysis. Before multiple regression computation, there were multiple regression prerequisite tests, namely, linearity of the relationship between independent and dependent variables, outliers and multicollinearity of predictor variables. Multiple regression showed that PEoU and availability of environmental print directly and PU indirectly influence teachers' perceived BI, which is inconsistent with the origin TAM. PEoU and the availability of environmental print influence teachers' BI to enhance emergent literacy skills. The indirect effect of PU may be owing to pre-primary teachers' inability to employ environmental print and teachers' workload. It is advisable to provide primary schools where pre-primary classes are attached with learning resources to assist in developing emergent literacy skills for pre-primary children

Effect of TED Talks on University Students' Speaking Skill Competency: A Meta-Analysis

This meta-analysis investigated the effectiveness of using TED Talks to improve speaking skills among university students. A comprehensive literature search identified 16 relevant experimental studies that compared speaking outcomes between groups using TED Talks and control groups. Results revealed an overall large, statistically significant positive effect (g = 1.521, p < 0.001), indicating that students who utilized TED Talks scored substantially higher on speaking measures than control groups. However, a high degree of heterogeneity (I2 = 97.5%) suggested variability in effectiveness across studies. When examined by country, substantial positive effects were found for Egypt (g = 5.579) and Saudi Arabia (g = 1.955), with high positive impacts in Indonesia (g = 0.889), Pakistan (g = 1.188), and Russia (g = 1.138). More modest gains around 0.3-0.7 standard deviations emerged for South Korea and Turkey, while China showed a negligible effect (g = 0.072). Despite some individual null/negative findings, this meta-analysis provides robust evidence that integrating TED Talks can substantially enhance university students' speaking proficiency, particularly in particular national contexts. Potential moderators influencing effectiveness and recommendations for optimizing TED Talk implementation are discussed.
