Emergent Spinon Dispersion and Symmetry Breaking in Two-channel Kondo Lattices

Yang Ge,
Yashar Komijani

Abstract: Two-channel Kondo lattice serves as a model for a growing family of heavy-fermion compounds. We employ dynamical large-N technique and go beyond the independent bath approximation to study this model both numerically and analytically using renormalization group ideas. We show that Kondo effect induces dynamic magnetic correlations that lead to an emergent spinon dispersion. Furthermore, we develop a quantitative framework that interpolates between infinite dimension where the channel-symmetry broken results of… Show more

“…Here, we sum over all i, j, but the results are similar if several sites near the edges are excluded, suggesting that our results represent bulk physics. From these quantities, we can address the nature of the Fermi surfaces in each phase, and whether they incorporate the local spins, similar to the single-channel case [8, 9, 11-13, 15, 16, 50-52], which would confirm one of the central results of the large-N two-channel model [23,[27][28][29]. We will show n q for different phases, as it detects k F directly, compared to detecting 2k F and 4k F from Friedel oscillations, which we mainly use to check the n q results [53].…”

“…Here, we switched to the grand canonical ensemble by introducing a chemical potential for the conduction electrons, µ. The resulting Hamiltonian has quartic interactions and can be Hubbard-Stratonovich decoupled using a channel dependent hybridization [27][28][29]:…”

“…In this Letter, we show that the treatment of charge and spin dynamics on equal footing within the dynamical large-N approach [28,[33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41] leads to new insight into 2).
