Emerging Roles and Potential Biological Value of CircRNA in Osteosarcoma

Abstract: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are endogenous noncoding RNAs that are widely found in eukaryotic cells. They have been found to play a vital biological role in the development of human diseases. At present, circRNAs have been involved in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and targeted treatment of multiple tumors. This article reviews the research progress of circRNAs in osteosarcoma (OSA) in recent years. The potential connection between circRNAs and OSA cell proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis, and chemotherapy sensiti… Show more

“…[17][18][19] Circ_0000677 (also named as circ_001569) is located in the ABCC1 gene locus and has been shown to be upregulated in CRC. [20][21][22] Meanwhile, predicted binding site for m 6 A modification by METTL3/YHTDF3 existed, suggesting the regulatory mechanism for circ_0000677 by m 6 A modification.…”

“…Researches have proved that circRNAs play significant roles in cancer by acting as oncogenes or tumor inhibitors and mediating the expression of downstream targets at transcriptional or posttranscriptional level 17–19 . Circ_0000677 (also named as circ_001569) is located in the ABCC1 gene locus and has been shown to be upregulated in CRC 20–22 . Meanwhile, predicted binding site for m 6 A modification by METTL3/YHTDF3 existed, suggesting the regulatory mechanism for circ_0000677 by m 6 A modification.…”

“…International Publisher plays crucial roles in many diseases, including digestive system neoplasms, cardiovascular disease, and Osteosarcoma [8][9][10]. It was commonly known that circRNAs regulated cell functions and cancer development by sponging microRNAs (miRNAs) [11][12][13].…”

“…CircRNA is mainly located in the cytoplasm and is highly stable compared to other ncRNAs 6 . CircRNA is abundantly expressed and evolutionarily conserved across eukaryotic organisms 7 and it plays crucial roles in many diseases, including digestive system neoplasms, cardiovascular disease, and Osteosarcoma 8 - 10 . It was commonly known that circRNAs regulated cell functions and cancer development by sponging microRNAs (miRNAs) 11 - 13 .…”

“…CircRNAs are produced by back-splicing events and as their name suggests these are closed ended cova-lent circles [106]. CircRNAs are resistant to exonucleases and have emerged as clinically relevant regulatory RNAs in several cancers including osteosarcoma and other pediatric cancers [107]. The role of circRNAs has not been reported in ES directly yet.…”
