Endoscopic Tissue Liquidization and Surgical Aspiration*

Abstract: A series of experiments has transformed a kitchen blender into an instrument worthy of evaluation in all forms of endoscopie surgery, namely the patented Endoscopie Tissue Liquidiser and Aspirator (ELSA). Robotic integration has been a successful academic exercise and could be the starting point for a new initiative (e.g., robot-guided biopsy of various organs). For soft, nonfibrous tissues, the ELSA is superior to the widely acclaimed Cavitron ultrasonic surgical aspirator in open surgery and is capable of be… Show more

“…In children, the question remains as to whether the invasiveness of laparoscopic renal surgery is any less than from open surgery, and thus we conducted this pilot study of RPN in children with NFKs, including congenital anomalous kidneys. Laparoscopic nephrectomy has been performed on children in a few centres, using transperitoneal or extraperitoneal access, but mostly transperitoneal [ 1, 2, 7, 9, 15–17]. The main disadvantage of RPN is the lack of space, although this problem can be overcome using the techniques described [ 18].…”

“…Laparoscopic nephrectomy via the transperitoneal route has established its role in urology with obvious benefits of less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, early recovery, rapid recuperation and an optimal cosmetic result compared with traditional surgery [9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. Retroperitoneoscopy has certain distinct advantages over transperitoneal access as it affords direct access to the retroperitoneal genitourinary organs [17,18].…”
