Endothelial Cells in Asthma

Abstract: The occurrence of new blood vessel formation in the airway wall of asthma patients was reported more than a century ago. It was long thought that angiogenesis in asthma was an epiphenomenon of airway inflammation. Therefore, little research has been performed on the role of endothelial cells in this disease. We are moving away from this misconception as an increasing number of clinical studies and findings in murine models of asthma demonstrate a causal link between angiogenesis in the airway and genesis of al… Show more

“…The metabolic link of the microcirculatory bed of lungs, located on the border between circulating blood and lung tissue, is one of the largest functionally active systems of the studied organ. The participation of blood capillaries in gas exchange, regulation of homeostatic and metabolic processes, and intercellular interactions, ensures the transport of gases, secretion of trophic and regulatory substances in normal conditions and during functional rearrangement aimed at adapting to da maging factors action at allergic inflammation [4]. Numerous studies have been devoted to the research of the processes of adaptive restructuring microvessels walls in human and animal lungs under the influence of various factors on the body [5][6][7].…”
