New energy solutions are needed to decrease the currently high electricity costs from conventional electricity-only central power plants in Cyprus. A promising solution is a decentralized, hybrid photovoltaic-solid oxide fuel cell (PV-SOFC) system. In this study a decentralized, hybrid PV-SOFC system is investigated as a solution for useful energy supply to a commercial building (small hotel). An actual load profile and solar/weather data are fed to the system model to determine the thermoeconomic characteristics of the proposed system. The maximum power outputs for the PV and SOFC subsystems are 70 and 152 kWe, respectively. The average net electrical and total efficiencies for the SOFC subsystem are 0.303 and 0.700, respectively. Maximum net electrical and total efficiencies reach up to 0.375 and 0.756, respectively. The lifecycle cost for the system is 1.24 million USD, with a unit cost of electricity at 0.1057 USD/kWh. In comparison to the conventional case, the unit cost of electricity is about 50% lower, while the reduction in CO2 emissions is about 36%. The proposed system is capable of power and heat generation at a lower cost, owing to the recent progress in both PV and fuel cell technologies, namely longer lifetime and lower specific cost.

Purpose This study aims to use an environomics method to assess the environmental impacts of selected gas turbine power plants in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach In this study, exergoenvironomic analysis has been carried out to investigate the environmental impact of selected gas turbine power plants in Nigeria from an exergetic point of view. Findings The exergy analysis reveals that the combustion chamber is the most exergy destructive component compared to other cycle components. The exergy destruction of this component can be reduced by increasing gas turbine inlet temperature (GTIT). The results of the study show that thermodynamic inefficiency is responsible for the environmental impact associated with gas turbine components. The study further shows that CO2 emissions and cost of environmental impact decrease with increasing GTIT. Originality/value The exergo-environomic parameters computed in this study are CO2 emission in kg per MWh of electricity generated, depletion number, sustainability index, cost flow rate of environmental impacts (Ċenv) in $/h and total cost rates of products (ĊTot) in $/hr. For the period considered, the CO2 emissions for the selected plants vary from 100.18 to 408.78 kgCO2/MWhm, while cost flow rate of environmental impacts varies from $40.18 /h to $276.97 /h and the total cost rates of products vary from $2935.69/h to $12,232.84/h. The depletion number and sustainability index vary from 0.69 to 0.84 and 1.20 to 1.44, respectively.

Burcu TAN, Feride Pınar ARABACIOĞLUTürkiye'de 2005 yılında çıkarılan kentsel yenileme yasası ile yenileme alanı ilan edilen sit alanlarında ortaya konan tasarım projelerinin kültürel mirasın korunması konusunda ortaya konan evrensel ilkeler ve yasal düzenlemeleri dikkate almadığı ve bu bağlamda tarihi dokunun bütünlüğünü bozan, kimliğini değiştiren mimari tasarım çalışmaları yapıldığı gözlenmektedir. Günümüzde tarihi çevrede çağdaş mimari tasarım, koruma konusu ile birlikte ele alınmakta, konuya dair evrensel çalışmalar aracılığı ile kültürel kimliğin değerinin korunması ve gelecek nesillere aktarılması amaçlanmaktadır. Tarihi çevrede mimari tasarım konusu ile ilgili uluslararası ilkelerin tasarıma etki etmesi, yeni yapıların bağlam, süreklilik ve dönemsel okunabilirlik kavramları ışığında ortaya konması kültürel mirasın korunmasına yardımcı olacaktır. Bu doğrultuda makale İstanbul'da öncelikli olarak yenileme alanı ilan edilmiş Fener-Balat, Süleymaniye ve Tarlabaşı yenileme projelerinin evrensel koruma ve mimari tasarım ilkeleri kapsamında sorgulanmasına odaklanmaktadır. Bununla birlikte ülkemizde mimari tasarıma etki eden dış faktörlerin ortaya konması hedeflenmiştir. Makalede öncelikle tarihi çevre koruma ve tarihi çevrede mimari tasarım kavramları, tarihsel süreçte ortaya konmuş evrensel çalışmalar ve Türkiye'de bu kapsamda yapılan yasal ve kurumsal düzenlemeler üzerinden irdelenmiş, daha sonra bu kavramlar kapsamında tarihi çevrede mimari tasarım kriterleri belirlenmiştir. Çalışma alanı olarak belirlenmiş üç bölge için hazırlanmış yenileme projeleri irdelenerek tasarım sorunlarının ortaya konması amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda projeler, çalışmada belirlenen tasarım kriterleri ve Türkiye'de tasarıma etki eden dış faktörler kapsamında konunun uzmanları ile yapılan anket çalışması aracılığı ile sorgulanmıştır. Söz konusu yenileme projelerinde tasarım çalışmalarının bağlam, süreklilik, dönemsel okunabilirlik kavramları ile ele alınmadığı aynı zamanda Türkiye'nin içinde bulunduğu siyasi, ekonomik durumun tasarım çalışmalarına etki ettiği sonucuna varılmıştır.Anahtar sözcükler: İstanbul yenileme alanları; kentsel yenileme; tarihi çevre koruma; tarihi çevrede mimari tasarım.
