Enhanced Homogenization Strategy by Electroslag Remelting of High‐Manganese TRIP and TWIP Steels

Abstract: In the production of high‐manganese TRIP and TWIP steels, significant micro‐segregation effects are observed after solidification. Homogenization can be achieved by heat treatment followed by deformation at a significant time and effort (forging, annealing, hot rolling). In an attempt to achieve the best homogeneous microstructure and reduced thermomechanical processing, the cast alloy is treated by electroslag remelting (ESR). After a simple hot rolling procedure with a thickness reduction of 90% and without … Show more

“…Electroslag remelting (ESR) process is a promising method for the production of high-quality ingots because non-metallic inclusions can be removed efficiently and sounder structure can be obtained during the fabrication of ingots. [1][2][3][4][5] Thus, it is vitally necessary that ESR process is used during the refining process of the special alloys.…”

“…To settle the problem of nonmetallic inclusions damaging the mechanical properties of steels, electroslag remelting (ESR) technology [1][2][3][4][5][6] was developed for its excellent purification efficiency. Nowadays, the ESR process has become more and more important for the increasingly high requirements of the steels in areas such as electricity, aviation, metallurgy, machinery and so on.…”

“…As a result, the mechanical properties of the ESR ingots improved sharply. Reitz et al 3) found that the implementation of ESR process can make great contribution to the microstructure refinement of the TRIP and TWIP steel ingot and also optimized the subsequent deformation process. Salehi et al 4) have shown that functionally graded steel with strength gradient can be produced by utilizing ESR.…”
