Enhanced hydrophilicity and antifouling performance of PES-C/emodin ultrafiltration membrane

Abstract: In this article, an ultrafiltration membrane was fabricated from phenolphthalein polyethersulfone (PES-C) modified with emodin using a phase-inversion method. ATR-FTIR and UV-vis analysis showed that emodin had good compatibility with the PES-C ultrafiltration membrane. SEM showed that the prepared ultrafiltration membranes consisted of a porous skin layer and a macroporous support sublayer. The contact angle value of the pure PES-C ultrafiltration membrane was 77.71° and that of the PES-C ultrafiltration memb… Show more

“…According to the preliminary experimental results [ 20 ], the best comprehensive performance of the prepared PES-C/emodin ultrafiltration membrane was as follows: filtration performance showed a water flux of 387.41 L∙m −2 ∙h −1 , and a rejection rate of 99.83%; Hydrophilic had a water content of 6.78%, and a contact angle of 65.71°; Anti-pollution performance had a flux recovery rate of 57.05%, and a BSA adsorption rate of 1.44% and the antibacterial diameter of 2.30 cm on S. aureus. Moreover, compared with the PES-C ultrafiltration membrane, the optimal PES-C/emoin ultrafiltration membrane significantly reduced bacterial adhesion.…”

“…Renal C (acanthopanax injection group rich in macromolecules): the glomerular epithelial cells distributed in the cortex had mild edema, the renal tubules had congestion, and there were infiltrated inflammatory cells and partial congestion in the interstitial cells. PES-C/emodin ultrafiltration membrane was prepared by the phase transformation method according to the previous experiment method [20]. A certain quality of PES-C was dissolved in a certain volume of N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) solvent, and the mixture system was stirred at 75 °C for 3 h. After the temperature dropped to room temperature,…”

“…However, as PES-C is a hydrophobic material, the holes in the fabricated membrane are easily blocked during the separation process, reducing the separation efficiency and service life of the separation membrane. 4 A separation membrane must be hydrophilically modified to reduce membrane fouling. Compared with surface grafting and surface coating, blending modification is more convenient and widely applied.…”
