Enhanced luminescence of SrSi2O2N2:Eu2+ phosphors by codoping with Ce3+, Mn2+, and Dy3+ ions

Abstract: The authors report here the enhanced luminescence properties of SrSi 2 O 2 N 2 doped with Eu and M ͑M = Ce, Dy, and Mn͒. The Eu and Eu, Mn-codoped powders were prepared by a solid state reaction at temperatures between 1400 and 1600 °C under H 2 ͑25% ͒ -N 2 ͑75%͒ atmosphere. The Eu, M-codoped Sr 1−x−y Si 2 N 2 O 2 phosphors have the monoclinic structure with lattice parameters a ϳ 15.6 Å, b ϳ 16.2 Å, c ϳ 9.4 Å, and ␤ ϳ 91°. The phosphors can be efficiently excited in the UV to visible region, making them attra… Show more

“…But it has some problems, such as poor color-rendering index and low thermal quenching temperature [16]. The multi-phased (red, blue and green) phosphors which possess superior color uniformity and high color rendering index were tuned to emit white light under the excitation of UV-LEDs [17,18]. However, the reabsorption of blue emission by the green-or red-emitting phosphors results in low luminous efficiency.…”

“…A traditional method is to blend a blue LED with a yellow-emitting phosphor, such as Y 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce 3? [6]. This method is almost easy to use, and the device has been commercialized.…”

“…After sintering, the sample was cooled down to room temperature and then reground (details of the procedure follow those of Ref. 34). The obtained sample was of white color with a light greenish shade.…”
