Enhanced magnetoresistance in the complex perovskite LaCu3Mn4O12

Abstract: Moderate-pressure techniques (P=2 GPa) have been used to prepare the complex LaCu3Mn4O12 perovskite. It has been characterized by neutron powder diffraction, magnetic, and magnetotransport measurements. This material is ferrimagnetic below TC=361 K. The magnetoresistance (MR) is enhanced with respect to that of CaCu3Mn4O12 due to the effective electronic injection that dramatically reduces the bulk resistivity, thus promoting the grain-boundary contribution to the electrical resistance. Values of low-field MR … Show more

“…Formation of the A-site-order perovskite phase was checked by X-ray diffraction using Cu K¡ radiation. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction patterns of the polycrystalline AMn 3 Al 4 O 12 samples were also collected on a DebyeScherrer camera installed at beamline BL02B2 of SPring-8 in Japan, with a wavelength of 0.778256 ¡ for DyMn 3 17 Magnetic properties were measured using a SQUID magnetometer (Magnetic Property Measurement System, Quantum Design), and specific heat measurements were done by the thermal relaxation method (Physical Property Measurement System, Quantum Design).…”

“…23 The mismatch of lattice parameters a, b between the A-site ordered and the disordered structures is very small, as it is the case for the RuddlesdenPopper series of layered perovskites. The coexistence of the two, therefore, may take the form of intergrowth, where the layers of the minority structure are intercalated in the other, as has been identified in the doublelayer manganites (La 1−z Pr z ) 1 34 This type of random arrangements of the layers may be the origin of inhomogeneous spin dynamics in the FM phase of LaBaMn 2 O 6 and possible Griffiths phase phenomenon. 35 We cannot make a definite statement in our case.…”
