The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is the most famous amongst symmetric block cipher algorithms, and the most used one in many different applications, because its encryption strength and its resistance to many attacks. In this paper, a novel approach will be introduced to remove some weakness points in AES and increase its security. Unlike most previous researches, this research will improve the most important and powerful part of AES algorithm which is the MixColumns() transformation. In the original AES, there only one function is used, which it creates a fixed array that is used in MixColumns() transformation, and this fixed array is known by attackers. Alternatively, the expanded secret key will be used to generate a different function at each round of AES. These functions will create a variable dynamic arrays at each round based on expanded secret key. The variable dynamic arrays will increase confusion amongst bits of the encrypted text. After that, the ShiftRow() transformation will be complicated from ShiftRow() with fixed pattern to ShiftRowColumn() with variable dynamic pattern according to expanded secret key. The modified ShiftRowColumn() will increase the diffusion amongst bytes of encrypted text, as will be detailed in experimental results.

Encryption is a method of coding information or any other form of confidential, private and sensitive information or data to prevent from unauthorized access, use, misuse, disclosure, destruction, modification, or disruption. Now a day, it is essential to secure data that is at rest in our computer or is transmitted via web against attacks. Several of cryptographic techniques are being used to preserve security and could be classified as: symmetric and asymmetric. A symmetric algorithm named as (AES) is selected for enhancement due to its applicability and widely used algorithm. In AES, among the four stages that are used for encryption and decryption Sub Bytes and Mix Column produce more delay. On the other side, Shift Rows stage contribute to less security level of AES because it uses easy operation that is linear in nature. To overcome these challenges, in the designed symmetrical cryptography algorithm shift row stage of AES is replaced by symmetrical transposition technique to advance security. The simulation result of our Symmetrical Transposition technique has shown better security achievement, with greater than 50% avalanche effect, which means the proposed algorithm makes better confusion and diffusion. Hence, our proposed Enhanced Security of Advanced Encryption Standard (ES-AES) algorithm has better security when compared to original Advance Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm.

The widespread use of images, especially color images and rapid advancement of computer science, have led to an emphasis on securing these images and defending them against intruders. One of the most popular ways to protect images is to use encryption algorithms that convert data in a way that is not recognized by someone other than the intended user. The Advanced Encryption Standard algorithm (AES) is one of the most protected encryption algorithms. However, due to various types of theoretical and practical assaults, like a statistical attack, differential analysis, and brute force attack, its security is under attack. In this paper, a modified AES coined as (M-AES) is proposed to improve the efficiency of the AES algorithm by increasing the algorithm's security to make the algorithm more suitable for color image encryption, and make it more resistant to many attacks. The modification is conducted on ShiftRows transformation of the original AES algorithm. To test the efficiency of the proposed M-AES algorithm, several images are drawn from the Signal and Image Processing Institute's (SIPI) image dataset. Moreover, the Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Entropy (H), Correlation Coefficient (CC), visual evaluation of histogram, Number of Pixels Change Rate (NPCR) and Unified Average Changing Intensity (UACI) are used as an evaluation metric. The results show that proposed modiﬁcation to the AES algorithm makes the algorithm more appropriate to image and surpasses the original AES. The modification is conducted on ShiftRows step of the original AES algorithm. To test the efficiency of the proposed M-AES algorithm, several images are drawn from the signal and image processing institute's (SIPI) image dataset.
