Enhanced recovery after surgery pathway in patients with soft tissue sarcoma

Abstract: Background: Patients undergoing surgery for soft tissue sarcoma have high morbidity rates, particularly after preoperative radiation therapy (RT). An enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programme may improve perioperative outcomes in abdominal surgery. This study reported outcomes of an ERAS programme tailored to patients with soft tissue sarcoma. Methods: A prospective ERAS protocol was implemented in 2015 at a high-volume sarcoma centre. Patients treated within the ERAS programme from 2015 to 2018 were ca… Show more

“…It is important to note that the protocol does not have the structure, implementation, and evaluation of the ERAS ® guidelines. Lyu et al [11] first implemented the colorectal program in their center according to the official ERAS ® Society Guidelines and transferred this to sarcoma patients without relevant adaptations. An initial evaluation showed a reduction in complications and hospital length-of-stay.…”

“…Применение принципов ускоренного восстановления после операции (ERAS) приводит к улучшению непосредственных результатов (IIIA). Так, в американском проспективном исследовании [26] 234 больных мягкоткаными саркомами, включая саркомы и забрюшинной (36) локализации, проходили лечение по программе ERAS.…”

“…With the popularization of the concept of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program (24), much attention has recently been given to modified surgical techniques that result in effective hemorrhage control, reduced postoperative pain, lower bedrest requirements, and shorter hospital stays (25)(26)(27)(28)(29). The modification of surgical approach is considered to be of major importance in the ERAS strategies.…”
