Enhanced resolution and throughput of Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) using dual diffractive lenses on a spatial light modulator (SLM)

Abstract: Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) records holograms under incoherent illumination. FINCH was implemented with two focal length diffractive lenses on a spatial light modulator (SLM). Improved image resolution over previous single lens systems and at wider bandwidths was observed. For a given image magnification and light source bandwidth, FINCH with two lenses of close focal lengths yields a better hologram in comparison to a single diffractive lens FINCH. Three techniques of lens multiplexing o… Show more

“…3, showing a FINCH system with an extra glass lens L c . 21,24 An object point, positioned at a working distance from the objective lens L o , emits a spherical beam which is introduced into the system. An input polarizer, P 1 , oriented at an angle of 45 deg to the SLM active axis, allows the operation of two different imaging systems in the same physical single-channel setup.…”

“…Finally, reducing the optical path difference (OPD) in FINCH, for processing wide-bandwidth light sources, was done by inefficiently increasing the length of the systems. These difficulties were fruitfully solved in the later versions of FINCH; 19,21,24 some of them are reviewed in Sec. 2.2.…”

In recent years we have witnessed noteworthy achievements of incoherent holography techniques such as optical scanning holography [1] and Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) [2,3]. The latter has fundamental system robustness since it is based on a single channel incoherent interferometer and because it does not require any scanning or mechanical movement.…”
