Enhancing Algal Growth by Stimulation with LED Lighting and Ultrasound

Abstract: Algae are not only rich in natural nutrients, but are also a high-priced health food. An important constituent called “growth factor” is extracted from algae and used as an ingredient in medical drugs, foods, cosmetics, and other products. Its enormous potential market should not be taken lightly. Algae are mostly found near coastal areas and their habitats are limited by a number of natural factors, leading to large labor and financial expenditures to harvest. This report describes our study of indoor algae p… Show more

“…This microorganism is the major microalga found in the northern part of the Persian Gulf, Bushehr province (28.9234° N, 50.8203° E), Iran. The high photosynthetic efficiency of Chlorella and its rich oil content justify the research and development of the mass production and commercialization of this strain as a valuable source for biofuel production, especially biodiesel ( 35 , 36 ).…”

“…The microalgal growth media in this study was Bold's Basal Medium (BBM). Bold's Basal Medium contained nutrients, both macronutrients and micronutrients, which are needed by Chlorella DPK-01 to grow and to synthesize chemical compounds, such as lipid [9]. About 5,700 mL BBM was used to fill each PBR, 630 mL each.…”
