This study analyzes the effect of conditional mediation of environment-absorptive capacity in international entrepreneurial orientation of family businesses. Results involve data from 218 Spanish family businesses, analyzed with SmartPLS 3.2.7 software. This paper presents a relevant contribution both to the academic field and the performance of family firms, helping to understand the process of transforming international entrepreneurial orientation into a better international performance through absorptive capacity while family businesses invest their efforts in aligning international entrepreneurial orientation and absorptive capacity with international results, bearing in mind the positive moderator effect of environment. The most relevant contribution of this work is to integrate in the same model the mediating effect of the absorption capacity and the moderating effect of the environment: the effect of the international entrepreneurial orientation on the international performance of family businesses improves with the mediation of the absorptive capacity (the variability of international performance goes from 32.5 to 40.6%) and the moderation of the environment (to variability of international performance goes from 40.6 to 45.3%).

This study aims to examine the relationship between top managers’ entrepreneurial orientation and firms’ research and development (R&D) investment and the moderating effects of environmental uncertainty on this relationship. Using a sample of 337 Korean technology firms, we implemented a multiple regression analysis with R&D intensity as a dependent variable, top managers’ entrepreneurial orientation as an independent variable, and environmental uncertainty as a moderating variable. The findings reveal that the entrepreneurial orientation of top managers has significant and positive relationships with firms’ strategic decisions regarding R&D investment. This implies that the tendencies and characteristics of top managers significantly influence firms’ innovation efforts, especially during an economic recession. Furthermore, environmental munificence intensifies the entrepreneurial orientation and R&D investment relationship, while environmental dynamism has a negative moderating effect. On the other hand, environmental hostility does not have any impact on this relationship. The moderating effects of environmental uncertainty imply that firms should carefully consider environmental dynamism and munificence to intensify the positive effect of top managers’ entrepreneurial orientation on firms’ innovation efforts.

Oil and gas service sector is one of the major sectors of the oil and gas industry that contributes to and enhances economic functions across the globe. This industry in Nigeria was plagued with problems of unstable global oil prices, absence of entrepreneurial mindset, poor entrepreneurship ideas and mis-match of entrepreneurial orientation strategies with local and international business environmental conditions. Due to these problems, the oil and gas service firms recorded declining market performance and profitability. This study therefore examined the effect of entrepreneurial orientation components on overall performance. The study adopted cross-sectional survey research design with a target population of 14,038 owners and managers of oil and gas service companies operating in Nigeria. A mixed sampling technique was adopted to select the sample size of 576 using the Cochran (1997) formula. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple and hierarchical regression methods of analyses. Findings revealed that entrepreneurial orientation components (proactiveness, innovativeness, risk taking propensity, autonomy and competitive aggressiveness) had significant effect on market performance (Adj.R2 = .538, F-stat = 92.142, p<0.05). Entrepreneurial orientation components significantly affected profitability (Adj. R2 = .626, F-stat = 76.584, p<0.05); while external environment significantly moderated the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance (Δ Adj.R2 = .593, ΔF = 25.451; F-stat = 47.215, p<0.05) all at 5% level of significance. Implications of the findings and recommendations were made.
