Abstract: Chondrocytes can shift their metabolism to oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos) in early stages of osteoarthritis (OA), but as the disease progresses, this metabolic adaptation becomes limited and eventually fails, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress.
