Abstract:Loss of synaptic plasticity in the brain has been linked to aging‐associated cognitive decline and neurodegeneration, thus providing a promising target for therapeutic interventions. Ketamine, a drug applied for analgesia in emergency medicine and in treatment‐resistant depression, and some of its metabolites rapidly induce synaptic plasticity. However, ketamine cannot be reasonably applied as a neuroprotective agent given its side‐effect profile. With the aim to dissociate pro‐neuroplastic actions from NMDA r… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
