Enhancing the current density of a piezoelectric nanogenerator using a three-dimensional intercalation electrode

Abstract: The low output current density of piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) severely restricts their application for ambient mechanical energy harvest. This has been a key challenge in the development of PENG. Here, to conquer this, based on a piezoelectric material with high piezoelectric coefficient (Sm-PMN-PT), a new design of PENG with a three-dimensional intercalation electrode (IENG) is proposed. By creating many boundary interfaces inside the piezoelectric material, the total amount of surface polarization c… Show more

“…The current generated from individual falling droplets on these three samples (R L = 1.45 MΩ) is shown in Figure 4c. The current peaks are very similar because the effect of increasing σ for thinner samples is largely compensated by the increasing capacitance [11,15,[36][37][38][39][40][41][42] e) Current generated from single falling droplet using CTEG with samples T1, T2, and T3. The loading resistance is 1.45 MΩ.…”

“…Energy harvesting from the ambient vibration in different environments is an active line of research. Conversion of the vibration energy to electricity is mainly achievable through three popular methods namely electromagnetic [14][15][16] , triboelectric [17][18][19] and piezoelectric [20][21][22][23] . Piezoelectric elements have been widely utilized in vibration energy harvesting so far [24][25][26] , however, the low power and low efficiency of the PZT based energy harvesters is still a main challenge.…”
