Enhancing the Symmetry and Proportion of 3D Face Geometry

Abstract: We present an engine for enhancing the geometry of a 3D face mesh model while making the enhanced version share close similarity with the original. After obtaining the feature points of a given scanned 3D face model, we first perform a local and global symmetrization on the key facial features. We then apply an overall proportion optimization to the frontal face based on Neoclassical Canons and golden ratios. A nonlinear least-squares solution is adopted to adjust the feature points so that the face profile co… Show more

“…Marcolin et al [32] also devised facial geometrical descriptors representing symmetry features for the attractiveness analysis of 3D faces. Liao et al [33] manually selected landmarks for the golden ratio, neoclassical canon, and symmetry on a 3D face, and these distances and ratio values were revised by considering the surface characteristics of a 3D face. Table 1 summarizes the related studies.…”

“…In this experiment, we use the 66 facial feature points obtained by ISDM, while [1] requires a total of 84 feature points. We utilize global symmetrization and overall proportion optimization [17] on key facial features to calculate the beauty score of a face. A higher beauty score corresponds to a more attractive face in the training dataset.…”

“…Another system for the global enhancement of 3D scans is aimed not only at correcting asymmetry, but also to approach the proportions suggested by Neoclassic Canons, golden ratio and aesthetic criteria for the face profile ( [98]). Human raters preferred the enhanced 3D faces in 78.33% of the cases.…”
