Enterococcal Prosthetic Joint Infection Treated With Prosthesis Retention: A Case Report

Abstract: Periprosthetic joint infection may occur after prosthetic joint replacement. Treatment usually requires removal of the prosthesis in addition to systemic antibiotics. We report a case of enterococcal prosthetic knee infection that was treated with arthroscopic lavage and intravenous antibiotics (ampicillin 2 g every 4 h for 6 weeks and gentamicin 80 mg every 8 h for 2 weeks) with retention of the prosthesis.
