“…The FP was 11 or 12°C, for paralarvae from incubator or maternal care, respectively. These temperatures (11–12°C) have been reported for the culture of paralarvae and for the reproductive conditioning of Patagonian red octopus (Uriarte & Farías, ; Uriarte et al., ).…”

“…Patagonian red octopus is a merobenthic octopus whose paralarval development has been successfully obtained up to the stage of juvenile octopus (Uriarte & Farías, ). Currently, the high mortality during the paralarval period prevents the scaling from experimental rearing to commercial aquaculture (Uriarte & Farías, ), therefore it is very important to study the zootechnical conditions needed to obtain maximum performance.…”

“…Enteroctopus megalocyathus is a commercial species of Subantartic origin considered a species with great potential for aquaculture (Uriarte & Farías ), found along the Chilean Patagonia (34° 20′S, 72° 00′W) to the Beagle Channel, and along the Argentinean Patagonia (41° 30′S, 64° 40′W) and Falkland (Malvinas) Islands (Ibáñez & Chong ). Oceanographic records in the zone of distribution of E. megalocyathus showed that temperature ranged between 8 to 12°C in the Pacific Ocean and between 10 to 18°C in the Atlantic Ocean (Ortiz ; Ortíz, Ré, Márquez & Glembocki ), while in the Beagle Channel temperature oscillated between 2 and 4°C (Acha, Mianzan, Guerrero, Favero & Bava ).…”

“…The fecundity from this species under controlled conditions reaches up to 5500 ± 948 eggs per female, these eggs measure between 7.0 and 11.5 mm and they spend 4–5 months in embryonic development until hatching (Uriarte et al . ), only 75% of the eggs are successfully fertilized (Uriarte & Farías ). The paralarval development to benthic settlement takes between 90 and 114 days (Uriarte & Farías ).…”

“…Currently, their fishery is affected by an annual reproductive fishing‐ban between spring and summer. It is necessary to overcome the current bottleneck in the paralarvae stage to achieve the production of juveniles from paralarvae, either for ongrowing or for restocking purposes (Uriarte & Farías ).…”
