Entropion surgery with traction sutures

Abstract

As regards its frequency, senile entropion is considered one of the most important pathologic conditions in the field of oculoplastic surgery. It consists of an inversion of the eyelid margin, usually affecting the lower one, which causes the lashes to rub against the globe, thus producing ocular discomfort and permanent corneal damage in some cases.The authors describe the technique used in their department for the correction of both senile and spastic entropion. It consists of fixation by placement of absorbable Vicryl 5/0 sutures between the periorbital and the pretarsal bundles of the orbicularis oculi muscle or between the preseptal muscle and the upper anterior surface of the inferior tarsus. An ellipse of redundant skin is resected and the wound closed by a 610 silk suture. The results of this procedure on 83 patients are presented here one year after surgical treatment.
