“…358 This group later studied the use of supercritical fluids in this reaction, with lower yields and molecular size (around 60 wt% and 33 000 g mol −1 ). 359 Another paper shows the polymerization of ε-caprolactone using lipase N435 as a catalyst. 360 The successful enzymatic copolymerizations via ring opening of ε-thiocaprolactone and ε-caprolactone catalyzed by N435 have been reported.…”

“…Wang et al (193) have used cheap, idle, unharmful, and non-flammable supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ) to supplant the toxic solvents which have been used for the ROP of PGA in suspension polymerization. In addition to this, the elimination of scCO 2 can be done simply by system depressurization and also improves enzyme activity and stability (194). This property of scCO 2 has been used for ROP of macrolactone globalide, which otherwise is a difficult process and results in low molecular weight polymers.…”

“…Novozym®435-catalyzed ROP of ω-PDL was applied in scCO 2 in the presence of a co-solvent (dichloromethane or chloroform), synthesizing poly-ω-PDL with M w value up to 33,000 to 66,600 Da (PDI > 2). [125] The presence of co-solvent (with monomer to co-solvent mass ratio varying from 1 : 2 to 2 : 1 and (monomer + co-solvent) to scCO 2 mass ratio varying from 1 : 2 to 2 : 1) generated higher molecular weight poly-ω-pentadecalactone and higher reaction yields (with chloroform facilitating higher increase in reaction yields than dichloromethane). This co-solvent method was applied to the continuous Novo-zym®435-catalyzed synthesis of poly-ɛ-CL in PBR, [126] using a mixture of ɛ-CL (50 wt%) and dichloromethane (50 wt%) and pressurized fluids as solvents (2 : 1 solvent/mixture mass ratio).…”
