Motives: Active aging places (AAP) should be identified during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the sanitary safety of seniors, prevent older adults from feeling excluded, and eliminate health threats that discourage seniors from being active. Aim: The aim of this study was to apply a new analytical approach with the use of Voronoi diagrams in GIS tools to spatially identify the AAP in the context of apparent social dynamics. Methods: An empirical study was conducted with the use of qualitative (literature review, questionnaire survey, AAP classification, visualization of AAP location with GIS tools) and quantitative methods (AAP ranking based on a statistical analysis of survey responses). Results: Voronoi diagrams were used to determine the accessibility of selected objects in the city of Olsztyn and identify spaces that belong to the social logic of space.

Worldwide, the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the brand-new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, has claimed a sizable number of lives. The virus’ rapid spread and impact on every facet of human existence necessitate a continuous and dynamic examination of its biology and management. Despite this urgency, COVID-19 does not currently have any particular antiviral treatments. As a result, scientists are concentrating on repurposing existing antiviral medications or creating brand-new ones. This comprehensive review seeks to provide an in-depth exploration of our current understanding of SARS-CoV-2, starting with an analysis of its prevalence, pathology, and evolutionary trends. In doing so, the review aims to clarify the complex network of factors that have contributed to the varying case fatality rates observed in different geographic areas. In this work, we explore the complex world of SARS-CoV-2 mutations and their implications for vaccine efficacy and therapeutic interventions. The dynamic viral landscape of the pandemic poses a significant challenge, leading scientists to investigate the genetic foundations of the virus and the mechanisms underlying these genetic alterations. Numerous hypotheses have been proposed as the pandemic has developed, covering various subjects like the selection pressures driving mutation, the possibility of vaccine escape, and the consequences for clinical therapy. Furthermore, this review will shed light on current clinical trials investigating novel medicines and vaccine development, including the promising field of drug repurposing, providing a window into the changing field of treatment approaches. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the virus by compiling the huge and evolving body of knowledge on SARS-CoV-2, highlighting its complexities and implications for public health, and igniting additional investigation into the control of this unprecedented global health disaster.

Infectious diseases such as COVID-19 have severe impacts on both economy and public health in the US and the world. Due to the heterogeneity of virus spread, there are spatial variations in the demand for medical resources such as personal protective equipment (PPE), testing kits, and vaccines. The availability of such medical resources is critical to effective epidemic control. Although these resources can be readily transported to designated areas for fighting an epidemic, the demand is increasing and varying in space that places significant stress on the supply and allocation of medical resources. However, little has been done on the tessellation of infection distributions for resource management. In this letter, we develop new tessellation algorithms for decision support in epidemic resource allocation and management. The objective is to estimate resource locations and coverage based on the spatial analysis of heterogeneous infection distribution. First, spatial tessellation centroids are initialized through either greedy or clustercentric approaches. Next, the locations of tessellation centroids are calibrated through a gradient learning algorithm. Lastly, the spread tessellation is computed to provide an estimation of resource coverages under the heterogeneous infection distribution. The proposed methodology is evaluated and validated using a COVID-19 case study of infection data in Pennsylvania. Experimental results show the proposed methodology effectively tessellates the spread of infectious diseases. The new spread tessellation algorithms are shown to have strong potentials for epidemic decision support in infection modelling and resource allocation.
