Epidemiological Characteristics and Transmissibility for SARS-CoV-2 of Population Level and Cluster Level in a Chinese City

Abstract: BackgroundTo date, there is a lack of sufficient evidence on the type of clusters in which severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is most likely to spread. Notably, the differences between cluster-level and population-level outbreaks in epidemiological characteristics and transmissibility remain unclear. Identifying the characteristics of these two levels, including epidemiology and transmission dynamics, allows us to develop better surveillance and control strategies following the curren… Show more

“…One study used case data from multiple countries around the world, 6 studies were conducted in South Korea, 4 in France, 3 in Japan, 2 in Singapore, 2 in India, 2 in Vietnam, and 2 in Australia . One hundred nineteen studies (83.8%) included patients infected with the wild-type strain, 5 (3.5%) with the multiple strains, and 11 (7.7%) with an unknown strain (eTable 4 in the Supplement).…”

“…Many studies have been conducted in genomic epidemiology to find the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 in different cities and lineages of the virus [ 74 , 75 , 76 , 77 ]. These studies can see how many different lineages are responsible for affecting each city or country and which lineages are more deadly, more transmissible, and faster.…”
