“…Suite 2 basalts formed early in the depositional history as they are more contaminated than subsequent pulses as represented by suite 1 basalts. Hinchey et al (2020) suggested that the basement to the Aillik Group was a juvenile Neoarchean/Paleoproterozoic continental crust. This is based on the ages of inherited zircon grains in felsic magmatic samples, largely ranging from 1921 -1883 Ma and with lesser Archean zircons (2.7-2.9 Ga), and in the detrital zircon from sandstone of the Aillik Group, with peaks dominated at 1860 Ma and 2525 Ma.…”
