Abstract:This chapter discusses the chemistry, uses, health information, and industrial hygiene handling procedures of epoxides, that is, substances containing strained, three‐membered rings with two adjacent carbons and one oxygen atom. This functionality underlies epoxides' high reactivity, physicochemical properties, and toxicity. The majority of the content is dedicated to ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, but other epoxides are also of industrial interest and are described here; their databases have evolved over… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
