Epoxy Resin and Polyurethane Compositions from Glycolized Poly (ethylene terephthalate) Wastes

Abstract: The possibility to use poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) bottles production waste as raw material for compositions with high adhesion ability has been investigated. PET waste was glycolyzed with polypropylene glycol and three kinds of oligoesters were formed after depolymerization reaction. The polydispersity of product formed was 1.05. The possibilities to use PET glycolysis products-oligoesters for epoxy resin and polyurethanes were studied. Two-step reaction of oligoesters with epichlorohydrin was chosen f… Show more

“…This kind of molecular chain entanglement was formed by the intermolecular force or the mutual entanglement of molecular chains. However, viscosity is not only affected by intermolecular forces, but also related to the raw materials used in the resin synthesis processing [4,17,28].…”

“…The results show that the M n of the water-reducible alkyd resins was between 2300 and 2900, with little fluctuation. The weight average molecular weight was a component of the polymer chain structure and an important indicator of the size of the macromolecule [14,17]. The mechanical properties and processing properties of the film will be affected by the weight average molecular weight.…”

“…Composite components are frequently used in the automotive industry [1], construction industry [2][3][4], packaging industry [5][6][7] and for many technical applications for their practical properties [8][9][10]. Epoxy resin can positively alternate technical properties of various materials [11], but it also is problematic material in waste management [12][13][14][15][16]. As these materials can cause environmental burdens from their life cycle perspective, the life cycle assessment method is used for evaluation of their potential environmental impacts [17,18].…”
