ERG findings in three hypothyroid adult dogs with and without levothyroxine treatment

Abstract: Our results indicate that a dose of 20 microg/kg of LTh given to adult dogs was accompanied by a marked peak time shortening of both photopic and scotopic ERGs, without affecting other ERG parameters.

“…The perfect stability of retinal exposure to light cannot be guaranteed during the adaptation period, as the animals were not anaesthetized, and blinking was still possible. A longer acclimation period may have been necessary for complete light adaptation, as proposed in other studies and species 14 …”

“…Photopic and scotopic electroretinogram recordings were successfully conducted on anaesthetized minipigs using Lazard sclerocorneal clip electrodes. Previous studies have described the use of this type of clip electrode (including on minipigs), albeit at a far lesser scale 14,19,21,22 . This type of electrode allows the animal’s head and globes to be maintained in a stable position during the entire examination.…”

“…Binocular ERGs were evoked with the use of two bright flashes of light (Xenon capacitive discharge adjustable photostimulators with 20 ls of stimulus duration) delivered in full-field conditions as previously reported [41,42]. Sclero-conjunctival copper clips attached to the conjunctiva of the superior part of the globe.…”
