Erratum: Extension of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) on Chest CT and Implications for Chest Radiograph Interpretation

Abstract: This erratum corrects an error in the software listed for automatic generation of a volumetric mask of the lungs, lobes, intrapulmonary vessels, and airways. In Quantitative CT analysis, first paragraph, first sentence, the software should be listed as follows: "After uploading CT images from each patient to commercially available segmentation software (MEDIP PRO v2.0.0.0, MEDICALIP Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea), a deep neural network (Deep Catch v1.0.0.0, MEDICALIP Co. Ltd., Seoul, Korea), automatically generated a… Show more

“…De acuerdo con la literatura especializada, la radiografía de tórax es mucho menos sensible que la tomografía computarizada para identificar la afectación pulmonar de esta entidad. Tanto es así, que en el estudio de Choi et al describían una sensibilidad del 25% y una especificidad del 90% 27 . En las pocas series de casos publicadas hasta la fecha, la mayoría de los niños con COVID-19 no presentaban alteraciones en la radiografía de tórax 28 .…”

“…Even though CXR is less sensitive than CT scanning to diagnose COVID-19, it has a significant role in the management of the outbreak [ 17 , 18 ]. Additionally, CT scans have a very low specificity to detect the peculiar findings of pneumonia due to COVID-19 [ 18 , 19 ].…”

“…Even though CXR is less sensitive than CT scanning to diagnose COVID-19, it has a significant role in the management of the outbreak [ 17 , 18 ]. Additionally, CT scans have a very low specificity to detect the peculiar findings of pneumonia due to COVID-19 [ 18 , 19 ]. Other advantages of CXR over CT scans are as follows: 1) it is easier to operate the X-rays, particularly the procedure of disinfection that should be performed after each examination, and 2) it can be conducted at the bedside of patients, therefore minimizing the cross-infection risk in the radiology department [ 9 ].…”

“…Chest radiographs : Despite their high specificity, chest radiographs (CXRs) are less sensitive than computed tomography (CT) and RT-PCR for detecting COVID-19 infection related opacities[ 8 , 29 ]. Choi et al [ 29 ] evaluated 20 pairs of CT and CXRs done on the same day from 17 patients diagnosed with COVID-19, with one of their objectives being, to assess the visibility of COVID-19 lesions on CXRs. They found that CXRs had a sensitivity and specificity of 25% and 90%, respectively.…”

“…In another study involving 64 RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 patients, base line CXRs had a sensitivity of 69% compared to 91% for initial RT-PCR[ 30 ]. As a result, experts suggest that CXRs should not be recommended as the first line imaging modality for evaluating COVID-19 disease[ 8 , 29 - 31 ].…”
