Escape of quantum particles from an open cavity

Abstract: A negative ion irradiated by a laser provides a coherent source of electrons propagating out from the location of the negative ion. We study the total escape rates of the electrons when the negative ion is placed inside an open cavity in the shape of a wedge. We show the wedge induces significant oscillations in the total escape rates because of quantum interference effects. In particular, we show, for a wedge with an opening angle of π/N , where N is an arbitrary positive integer, there are (2N − 1) induced o… Show more

“…Later, the photodetachment near the different interfaces aroused the research interests of all either, including near a single elastic interface [24][25][26], near a inelastic interface [27], near metal nanometer spherical [28], near a metal surface [29][30][31] and near a deformation spherical [32] and etc. Additionally, the photodetachment in different cavities which are composed by elastic interfaces have also been extensively concerned recently, such as in a parallel plate cavity [33,34], in an open cavity [35], inside a circular microcavity [36] and inside a square microcavity [37], and etc. Some of the above researches use quantum method, some others employ the closed orbit theory method or both.…”

“…When the detached electron moves far away from the hydrogen atom, its wave functions can be constructed using the semi-classical approximation. [21][22][23][24] Therefore, we should search out all the detached electron's classical trajectories which emitted out from the origin and arrived at a given point on the detector plane.…”
