ESPAÇO PÚBLICO DE LAZER E O PLANEJAMENTO TERRITORIAL. Estudo sobre as praças em Florianópolis, Brasil

Abstract

This paper addresses the role of public leisure spaces in the construction of inclusive and sustainable cities. It is the result of reflections developed from research conducted on the squares in the continental portion of the city of Florianópolis, Brazil. It defines the concept of public open space as the material support for the existence of social and political life in cities. Moreover, it highlights the importance of public leisure spaces, squares and parks, which assume the character of multifunctionality, from the historical functions of fruition and sociability in the urban context to the ecological functions determined by the demands of climate change. The systems of public open spaces are, therefore, elements that structure the urban space and establish the bases and principles for territorial planning. Keywords: public leisure spaces, territorial planning, square, Florianópolis. Este trabalho aborda o papel dos espaços públicos de lazer na construção de cidades inclusivas e sustentáveis. É resultado das reflexões desenvolvidas a partir de pesquisa realizada sobre as praças na porção continental do município de Florianópolis, Brasil. Define o conceito de espaço livre público como o suporte material para a existência da vida social e política nas cidades. Além disso, destaca a importância dos espaços públicos de lazer, praças e parques, que assumem o caráter de multifuncionalidade, incluindo desde as funções históricas de fruição e sociabilidades no contexto urbano até as funções ecológicas determinadas pelas demandas das mudanças climáticas. Os sistemas de espaços livres públicos são, portanto, elementos que estruturam o espaço urbano e estabelecem as bases e princípios para o planejamento do território.
