“…Most published values are used to assess the cost-effectiveness of rotavirus vaccination for children aged ≤ 5 years. [70][71][72][73][74][75] Although some of these studies differentiate utility values by severity levels, for example mild or severe gastroenteritis or hospitalisation, 70,71,[76][77][78] none of the studies provided utility values for adults. The most useful paper was by Minor et al, 79 who estimated health-care costs associated with food-borne illnesses caused by known viruses, bacteria and parasites in the USA.…”

“…The health benefit could be broader than the impact on the at-risk population alone. For example, direct caregivers may also experience improvements in their quality of life that are often missed in conventional assessments [30,31]. Estimates of the extent and duration of herd protection should be simulated using models.…”

“…It is a simple hypothetical disease case comparable to rotavirus and similar to other childhood infectious diseases [14] .The accumulated benefit gain expressed in reduced QoL loss is measured for a cohort of 100,000 subjects over a period of 1 year. In the cohort receiving vaccine prevention, the QoL loss due to the disease is only 13.56 QoL/year, almost 4 times smaller than the QoL loss in the cohort receiving treatment (52.47 QoL/year).…”
