In compliance with the green energy policy, mitigation from high fossil fuel dependency is becoming a new objective for most countries, including Malaysia. Wave energy is among extensively explored renewable energy relatively clean, sustainable, and inexhaustible resources. To this day, neither definite wave energy technology nor widely available commercial wave farm supplying the grid has existed. Therefore, wave energy harvesting is the most compelling solution, especially in regions where the possibility of grid connection is low in the nearest future. Like other renewable energy, the voltage amplitude and frequency generated from waves are unstable and may vary continuously. This uncertainty has created energy transfer challenges since the grid requires a stable and uninterrupted energy supply. Therefore, power electronics devices are employed to modulate the controller circuits' pulse width. Further understanding of the relationship between wave energy conversion technology and its power conversion, particularly for nearshore applications, is summarized. This work also discussed selected wave energy conversion research and power conversion system implemented and studied in Malaysia. Finally, this review can provide extensive overview and broad understanding into power conversion system for Wave Energy Conversion, especially for nearshore applications.

the key goal of this article is on the design and optimum sliding mode control for Grid-Connected direct drive extraction method of ocean wave energy by Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO). A Linear Permanent Magnet Generator simulates the ocean wave energy extraction system, driven by an Archimedes Wave Swing. Uncontrolled three-phase rectifiers, a three-level buck-boost converter and 3 level neutral point clamped inverter are planned grid integration of Wave Energy Conversion device. The technique monitors the three-level buck-boost converter service cycle linked to the PMLG output terminals and decides the optimum switching sequence of 3 level neutral point clamped inverter to enable the grid relation. Simulations using Matlab/Simulink were carried out to test working of the wave energy converter after the suggested optimal control method was applied under various operating settings. Various simulation test results indicate that the proposed optimum control system is tested in both normal and irregular ocean waves. And it has been shown that the control method of the MOPSO sliding mode is ideal for maximizing energy transfer efficiency. Better voltage management at the DC-link and for achieving greater controllability spectrum was accomplished by the proposed Duty-ratio optimal control system.

Faced with wave irregularity, the corrosion of the mechanical sensor in wave power generation systems, hazardous working conditions, and the inaccuracy of conventional control methods in the shifting system, a new type of irregular wave maximum wave energy capture strategy are proposed. The motivation behind the strategy is speed sensorless power optimal control of a direct drive wave power system by an extended Kalman filter (EKF) and self-tuning fuzzy proportional integral (PI) control. In our strategy, a fast Fourier transform (FFT) is utilized to analyze the spectrum of the irregular wave excitation force, and the maximum superposition control condition of the wave energy extraction is constructed by the vector superposition principle. Taking the voltage and current parameters of the generator as the input, based on two stages of prediction and update, an EKF observer system is established to estimate the speed and position of the power generation system. The fuzzy parameters are used to dynamically adjust the PI parameters so as to achieve optimal power state tracking control. The simulation results show that the FFT can meet the power optimal tracking requirements of unknown irregular waves. The proposed speed sensorless control scheme has good dynamic characteristics, small degree and position observation errors, and strong robustness, and allows the system to follow a given value.INDEX TERMS Fast Fourier transform, wave power generation, linear permanent magnet synchronous generator, parameter self-tuning fuzzy PI, extended Kalman filter, optimal power.
