Estimation of Global Solar Radiation from Temperature Extremes: A Case Study of Hebron City, Palestine

Abstract: Solar radiation is the main energy source for mankind and an accurate data of solar radiation levels for a particular location is vital for the optimum operation of solar energy transducers such as photovoltaic cells and solar thermal collectors. This study aimed to calibrate some of the existing models in the literature for estimating daily global solar radiation parameter using available measured records of air temperature extremes and new models were developed based on maximum and minimum air temperatures. … Show more

“…It is also a key link between the mountain soil storage and the earth's ecosystem (Almorox et al 2013). Moreover, environmental factors, soil biological activity, enzyme activity, and physical and chemical properties determine the speed and efficiency of mineralization (Alsamamra 2019). These environmental factors are mainly adjusted by altitude and topography, thus forming an ecosystem with different altitudes (Al-Shamisi et al 2013).…”

“…Hargreaves et al [7], Allen [8] and Chen et al [9] developed estimation models based on the daily Tmax, Tmin and Ra parameters. Alsamamra [24] was tested these models in Palestine. The MAPE and RMSE values determined for these models varied between, 0.66 -9.12% and 0.71 -0.92 MJ m -2 day -1 , respectively.…”

“…Hence, renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy and others need large areas to become effective, hence the idea of this work by exploiting unused and wasted spaces to become a place for energy generation. Here in Palestine, the trend to renewable energy sources started about 15 years ago [14], but they are still weak due to the occupation policies that prevent the residents of Palestine from exploiting the resources as required [15]. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics in 2018, Palestine consumed about 5,576 Giga watt hour of electricity, and about 931 tons of oil equivalent of Oil derivatives and 169 tons of oil equivalent of energy from renewable energy [16].…”
