Introduction à la phonologie historique du chinois (cours de master). La catégorie du tropatif / estimatifLe séminaire de cette année a porté sur la catégorie encore peu explorée du tropatif, aussi appelé estimatif ou évaluatif : une dérivation verbale qui convertit un nom, un adjectif ou un verbe statif intransitif (le paramètre, X) en un verbe biactantiel signifiant « trouver / considérer comme X ». Cette catégorie est identifiée dans la grammaire traditionnelle arabe (Larcher 1996) ou chinoise (Wang 1962 : 348), qui distingue un usage tropatif des noms et des adjectifs (意動用法 yìdòng yòngfǎ).Les propriétés générales de ce type de constructions peuvent s'illustrer avec l'exemple (1), où un verbe transitif wašté-lakA « trouver bon, aimer » est dérivé à partir du verbe statif wašté « être bon ». Ce prédicat a deux arguments, un estimateur, entité animée qui attribue à une autre entité, l'estimé, la propriété associée au paramètre. En lakhota, l'estimateur est encodé avec les affixes de personnes actives, et l'estimé avec les affixes statifs.(1) LAKHOTA (Ullrich 2008 : 585) wašté-wičha-wa-lake bon-3PL.O.ANIME-1SG:ACTIF-TROPATIF « Je les aime. » (« Je les trouve bons »)

Transitivity, valency, and voice are at the very heart of the most basic aspects of clause structure in any language, but the details of the constraints that regulate the way verbs combine with noun phrases referring to the participants in the event they denote or to circumstances of the event vary greatly from language to language. The book sets up a consistent theoretical and terminological framework, novel in many respects, within which a typological approach to the phenomena commonly dealt with in terms of transitivity, valency, and voice can be developed. Throughout the book, the emphasis is on accounting for the cross-linguistic variation in this domain and capturing regularities in the variation. Much emphasis is also placed on the historical phenomena that may explain the emergence of constructions and markers and their evolution.
