“…Coping is a response to stressful situations that can threaten a student's academic progress. Coping can be adaptive and related to positive variables of psychological wellbeing such as self-regulation (Morales and Trianes, 2010) or, on the contrary, passive, maladaptive, paralyzing and generating dissatisfaction and stress. The student who lives a disadaptive coping is at risk of academic failure and drop-out.…”

“…Currently, there is considerable literature focused on determining the relationships between the willingness to use particular CERS and their association with the development of psychopathology in children and youth (Aldao et al, 2010; Andrés, Richaud de Minzi, Castañeiras, Canet‐Juric, & Rodríguez‐Carvajal, 2016; Garnefski et al, 2007; Morales & Trianes, 2010). It is estimated that 13.4% of children and adolescents present psychopathology, which includes both emotional and behavioural problems (Polanczyk, Salum, Sugaya, Caye, & Rohde, 2015).…”

“…It is estimated that 13.4% of children and adolescents present psychopathology, which includes both emotional and behavioural problems (Polanczyk, Salum, Sugaya, Caye, & Rohde, 2015). Children using adaptive strategies have been shown to have better psychological adjustment and less vulnerability to internalizing and externalizing symptoms (Godínez, Lucio, Maqueo, Patino, & Badillo, 2017; Morales & Trianes, 2010; Zanini & Forns, 2004). However, it is not the absence of these adaptive strategies that may cause the emergence of psychopathology in minors, but instead, ineffective emotion regulation and the presence of maladaptive strategies is more prejudicial (Aldao et al, 2010).…”
