O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a efetividade da fonoterapia em pacientes com paralisia facial decorrente da manipulação do VII nervo encefálico realizada durante o tratamento cirúrgico para neoplasia de glândula parótida, assim como, identificar e promover intervenção fonoaudiológica das alterações de sucção, mastigação e deglutição. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa com análise descritiva. A avaliação constou da análise da face em repouso e em movimento, documentação fotográfica, uso do Paquímetro Digital para quantificação da paralisia facial, além da avaliação das funções estomatognáticas. A fonoterapia foi definida com base nos achados da avaliação e seguiu a necessidade de cada indivíduo. Nos resultados da avaliação pós-fonoterapia em repouso houve melhora em todos os aspectos avaliados nos quatro pacientes. Na avaliação em movimento três pacientes apresentaram movimentação mais clara da pele com aumento do número e profundidade das rugas. No registro fotográfico todos os pacientes obtiveram melhora significante nos movimentos avaliados, sendo possível observar um aumento nas linhas de expressões e maior simetria entre as hemifaces. Os valores da incompetência dos movimentos, mensurados pós-fonoterapia, demonstraram melhora significante em todos os pontos medidos. A fonoterapia proposta para os casos de paralisia facial pós-parotidectomia foi eficiente na melhora da mímica facial, sobretudo para as alterações das funções estomatognáticas. É importante salientar a necessidade de novas pesquisas envolvendo um número maior de participantes para garantir a fidedignidade dos achados.

Purpose: to describe and analyze the clinical instruments that assess peripheral facial palsy through an integrative literature review. Methods: the precepts for this type of review were followed: research question, identification, selection of studies, and critical analysis. The Virtual Health Library (VHL), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Google Scholar, and PubMed databases were accessed to search for fully available articles published in national journals between January 2008 and July 2018. The terms used in the search were “Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences”, “Evaluation”, and “Facial Paralysis”, in both English and Portuguese. The data obtained were organized per author, title, objective, instruments used, description of the instruments, and application procedures used in the articles. Results: out of the total 992 articles found, only 18 met the inclusion criteria of the research. In most of them, there was only the citation of the assessment instruments or considerations about them, without fully describing the application procedures. Conclusion: the study identified publications that indicate the use of clinical and speech-language-hearing assessment instruments. However, further detailing is necessary regarding the assessment procedures to help develop and refine the speech-language-hearing methodologies and techniques.

Concern about the quality of life seeks the appreciation of it in a broader movement than controlling symptoms, decreasing mortality rate or increasing lifespan. In this context, the quality of life of individuals affected by facial paralysis, a common disease in the world, is inserted with no distinction of gender or age. The integrated work of professionals can enhance the healthcare process thus generating changes in the treatment towards the patient's quality of life. This study was carried out through electronic search in the databases of Pubmed, via the National Center for Biothecnology Information (NCBI); Lilacs (Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences), and SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online). A search tool was offered by the National Library of Medicine, by means of which the combination of the descriptors facial paralysis, quality of life, health workers, interprofessional relationship, cooperative behavior, patient care team was performed in a varied way in order to detect the largest possible number of publications.Evidence showed up few studies regarding to a relation among all addressed words. In general, the literature review indicated that the interprofessional work can favor the resizing of the relations among different contents, thus contributing to the overcoming of knowledge fragmentation. The interprofessional work is reckoned to be essential for the development of a workforce in the scope of which professionals work together in order to properly assist the integral healthcare.
