M1 takes into account all the particle-associated microorganisms, but, unfortunately, underestimates the contamination because of the labelling of fixed microorganisms from the labelled feeds. It seems to be expected that the 15 N-enrichment of the M2 and M3 bacteria is similar to that of the bacteria associated with the undigested residues in the bags.
