Eu3+‐tetrakis β‐diketonate complexes for solid‐state lighting application

Abstract: Eu 3+ -β-diketonate complexes are used, for example, in solid-state lighting (SSL) or light-converting molecular devices. However, their low emission quantum efficiency due to water molecules coordinated to Eu 3+ and low photostability are still problems to be addressed. To overcome such challenges, we synthesized Eu 3+ tetrakis complexes based on [Q][Eu(tfaa) 4 ] and [Q][Eu(dbm) 4 ] (Q1 = C 26 H 56 N + , Q2 = C 19 H 42 N + , and Q3 = C 17 H 38 N + ), replacing the water molecules in the tris stoichiometry. T… Show more

“…For [Tb(tfaa) 3 (μ-dppbo)Eu(tfaa) 3 ] n , no change of the emission intensity takes place over the whole monitored time, while for [Tb(tfaa) 3 (μ-dppeo)Eu(tfaa) 3 ] n , the emission intensity slightly drops by 4% during the UV radiation (15 mW/cm 2 ) exposition period. The intensity dependence on the radiation exposition has been reported for other Ln III β-diketone coordination compounds , and should not be an issue regarding the application in luminescence thermometry since the data acquisition is fast and the temperature probe does not need to be continuously exposed to radiation for a long period.…”

“…Depopulation can occur by radiative ( A rad ) or non-radiative ( A nrad ) paths. The total decay rate ( A t = A rad + A nrad ) is given by the inverse of the lifetime, as shown in eqn (3): 36 τ −1 = A rad + A nrad …”

“…transitions are rather sensitive to the coordination modes of the organic ligands, a great diversity of organic ligands can be used in the synthesis of new europium complexes to provide an antenna effect.
