Euterpe edulis seed germination parameters and genotype selection

Abstract: The palm tree juçara (Euterpe edulis Mart) is considered one of the most important and threatened native species in the Atlantic Forest. The search for juçara seeds (Euterpe edulis Martius) has increased, generating a need for technologies favorable to their production, quality and conservation. The aim of this study was to describe the seed germination patterns of 45 juçara accessions by using a nonlinear model to examine the behavior of these patterns and select superior genotypes. After clustering 45 juçara… Show more

“…Contrasting with our study, Fava & Albuquerque (2011) affirmed that the study species exhibits seed dormancy. Genetic factors and environmental factors may affect seed germination by influencing seed viability and quality within same species from different areas (Soler-Guilhen et al 2020). The initial moisture content of the pyrenes was ~10%, with similar results of 10% (Fabri 2018) and 16.6% (Masetto et al 2012) for the same species.…”

“…2a), indicating a high germination percentage, with no primary dormancy type, contrary to previous studies (Fava and Albuquerque 2011). Genetic factors may affect seed germination by influencing seed viability and quality in the same specie from different areas (Soler-Guilhen et al 2020). Lack of dormancy in C. alba seeds can warrant recruitment in the Pantanal wetlands where seeds are subjected to flooding conditions, demonstrated by a rapid flush of seedling emergence in the post-flood environment (Bao et al 2018).…”

“…This, in part, can also be attributed to A. murumuru seeds. In Euterpe edulis Mart., the existence of genetic variability in germination percentage and speed between genotypes indicated the possibility of selection for these characteristics (Soler-Guilhen et al, 2020).…”
