This study aimed to evaluate the adsorption capacity of an adsorbent obtained using sanky peel for the removal of phosphate from aqueous solutions. The study was conducted in two stages: (1) adsorbent preparation considering yield, phosphate removal, adsorption capacity, and textural characteristics; (2) an assessment of the effectiveness of using sanky peel as an adsorbent for removing phosphates from aqueous solutions. Batch adsorption was studied in aqueous solutions containing phosphate and calcium ions with the selected adsorbent. Adsorption kinetics and equilibrium isotherms were studied using mathematical models. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order, Elovich, and Weber–Morris models, thus demonstrating that adsorption rates were not controlled by multiple processes. Adsorption equilibrium data fitted best with the Dubinin–Radushkevich model. Finally, a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed the presence of brushite spectra bands after adsorption. The results of this study can help better understand the use of sanky peel as an adsorbent and good alternative for aqueous phosphate adsorption.

Las infusiones son bebidas elaboradas a base de hierbas y otros materiales vegetales, consideradas saludables por la presencia de compuestos bioactivos. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar la actividad antioxidante, compuestos fenólicos y evaluación sensorial de formulaciones para infusión a base de cáscara de sanky y canela. Los tratamientos estudiados incluyeron 100% de cáscara de sanky (INF100), 70% de cáscara de sanky +30% de canela (INF70) y 50% de cáscara de sanky +50% de canela (INF50). El contenido fenólico y la actividad antioxidante variaron significativamente (p < 0,05). El contenido de fenolestotales fue 1040; 3616 y 5353 μg GAE g-1 para los tratamientos INF100, INF70 y INF50 respectivamente. La actividad de barrido del DPPH fue 1116,67; 1647,33 y 2017,00 μg de TEAC g-1 y la actividad de barrido ABTS fue 2090; 8920 y 13425μg de TEAC g-1 para los tratamientos INF100, INF70 y INF50 respectivamente. Los resultados mostraron que las formulaciones destacaron en sus contenidos de proteína, grasa, ceniza y fibra. Respecto a la aceptabilidad sensorial de las infusiones, no hubo diferencias significativas (p > 0,05) entre los tres tratamientos, destacando que las puntuaciones sensoriales fueron aceptables. The South American Andes hide countless cacti and are part of valuable Andean biodiversity. Within this large family of Cactaceae are edible cacti that are highly valued for their medicinal properties and used as edible fruits. In this review, we will make a description of the overall chemical composition, main phytochemicals found in some edible cacti of the Andean region such as sanky (Corryocactus brevistylus), pitahaya (Hylocereus monacanthus, Hylocereus megalanthus) and tuna or prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica). In addition, we will include its medicinal and therapeutic properties and its commercial applications and uses as a natural colorant.
