Evaluating Patient-Centered Mobile Health Technologies: Definitions, Methodologies, and Outcomes (Preprint)

Abstract

UNSTRUCTURED Digital technologies are radically changing the patient experience landscape. In the last six months alone, funding for digital technologies has exceeded $3 billion in the United States. The integration of digital, patient-centered technologies has occurred at such a rapid pace that the implementation of them has arguably outpaced healthcare organizations’ abilities to assess the effectiveness of them. In this article, we propose a new, initial framework to assist healthcare organizations and other stakeholders in developing, implementing, and evaluating patient-centered digital technologies. We also argue that self-regulation is needed to ensure that quality standards are met before wide-scale dissemination of digital technologies. We identify several specific actions a professional collaboration could take to self-regulate development and dissemination of digital technologies
