“…The results showed that not only did the hydrophobic powder improve the moisture sensitivity, but it also increased the rutting resistance of mix-tures. Dynamic creep and wheel tracking test results showed bitumen modified mixtures are more resistant to mechanical deformation [36].…”

“…Based on the peel test, the moisture absorption and mineralogical compositions of aggregate were considered as two important factors to moisture sensitivity [35]. Ziari et al (2017) considered amorphous carbon powder, a by-product of paraffin production factory, is used as a replcement of filler (25,50,75, and 100%) and as a modifier of bitumen (5, 10, and 15%) to improve the hydrophobicity of mixtures. The results showed that not only did the hydrophobic powder improve the moisture sensitivity, but it also increased the rutting resistance of mix-tures.…”

“…Researchers outside the post-Soviet space do not consider the hydrophobization of mineral powders as a way to improve the quality of bitumen-mineral composites. The global literature resources provide the separate studies' results of the hydrophobic fillers' effect on the asphalt concrete properties, but they are devoted to the use of non-ordinary fillers, for example, amorphous carbon powder [22] and hydrophobic diatoms [23]. Moreover, according to the results of numerous foreign studies, the nature of mineral powder does not significantly affect the properties of asphalt concrete [24][25][26].…”

“…In this line, research studies have shown that the role of filler in increasing asphalt mixes strength to moisture induced damage (adhesive failure and cohesive failure) is very significant such that some of fillers (e.g., cement fillers, amorphous carbon powder, etc) causes a reduction in moisture sensitivity as well as an increase in water desorption of asphalt mixtures, and finally they change moisture sensitivity of mixtures. Even, the change in fillers' size also affects the moisture sensitivity [15,16]. In addition, fillers concentration and their minerals type can affect mastic stiffness [17].…”
