“…This study may not completely disclose the level of knowledge about the ODH of the patients in the entire southeast region of Turkey due to the limited population size, but it can be a guide for information about the ODH of adult patients in this region. In previous studies, Eren et al 16 studied on 187 patients and reported the proportion of periodontitis and gingivitis in our society as 30.5% and 69.5%, respectively; Gökalp et al 6 reported as 34.1% and 35.9%, respectively, in 3176 patients aged 35-74; and Ertümer et al 17 reported as 28.3% and 57.7%, respectively, in 350 patients, while we found these numbers as 64.3% and 35.7%, respectively. The higher rate of periodontitis found in the present study may be due to the fact that the total number of individuals is more, or due to the extended age range, or due to the limited region.…”
